Geordie

Geordie這首歌的背景來源有兩個出處。第一個見於17世紀早期的《蘇格蘭手卷》（《Straloch Manuscripts》）中一個名叫《God be wi' thee, Geordie》的故事。另外一個出處見於Buchan在1828年編寫的《古民謠和歌曲》（《Ancient Ballads and Songs》）一個叫做《Gight's Lady》的故事中。在《蘇格蘭手卷》的故事中，Geordie擁有6個孩子（不是歌中的三個），他被指控偷了國王的6匹白色的馬並且在Bohenny賣掉而被判絞刑。而根據Buchan的記載，Geordie在史上確有其人，全名是George Gordon of Gight（1512-1562），是詹姆斯四世一個私生女的兒子，並且擁有爵士封號。他由於“對領主Bignet之妻過於親密”的罪名而被囚禁。Geordie的妻子Lady Ann趕到了愛丁堡請求法官寬恕她的丈夫，結果是，法官同意釋放Geordie，不過前提是要他親手殺掉自己的妻子，最終Lady Ann為了挽救丈夫的性命而選擇死亡。
