原文：The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State, elected by the people thereof, for six years; and each Senator shall have one vote. The electors in each State shall have the qualifications requisite for electors of the most numerous branch of the State legislatures.

When vacancies happen in the representation of any State in the Senate, the executive authority of such State shall issue writs of election to fill such vacancies: Provided, That the legislature of any State may empower the executive thereof to make temporary appointments until the people fill the vacancies by election as the legislature may direct.

This amendment shall not be so construed as to affect the election or term of any Senator chosen before it becomes valid as part of the Constitution.

譯文：〔一〕合眾國參議院由每州兩名參議員組成，參議員由本州人民選舉，任期6年；每名參議員各有一票表決權。每個州的選舉人應具備該州州議會人數最多一院選舉人所需具備之資格。
〔二〕任何一州在參議院的代表出現缺額時，該州行政當局應發布選舉令，以填補此項缺額，但任何一州的議會得授權該州行政長官，在人民依該議會指示舉行選舉填補缺額以前，任命臨時參議員。
〔三〕本條修正案不得作如此解釋，以致影響在本條修正案作為憲法的一部分生效以前當選的任何參議員的選舉或任期。
