2、地理信息科學:參與探討了網路GIS的一些問題諸如數據兼容和共享,並參與提出了一些算法。探索了面積級圖的空間不確定性並提出了表達範疇場不確定性的機率圖法。提出了模擬範疇地理變數的馬鏈地統計學。採用地球統計學進行衛星遙感圖像信息缺失處理。
3、土壤學:從區域尺度上定量沖積土壤質地層次的空間變異,採用一維馬鏈理論建立了沖積土壤質地剖面的隨機模擬模型,並與農田水平衡模型相結合。1999年利用‘厄耳費機’提出的耦合二維馬鏈模型模擬了土壤類型和質地剖面,發現其因模型假設和算法不適當而不能產生合理結果,近年提出的馬鏈地統計學最終解決了有關問題。利用馬鏈地統計學模擬了土壤質地剖面、土壤類型分布、土壤層次厚度和出現深度等。對我國暖溫帶的黑粘土(沙姜黑土)的發生學特性進行了系統的分析,闡釋了形成過程以及黑色和僵瘦成因,並提出了分類和治理建議。
4、自然地理學:利用空間統計學進行土地覆被類型的空間分布模擬。多次參與黃淮海平原農業綜合治理與開發研究,探討了黃淮海平原農業持續發展的有關策略。較早地認識到了開展陸地生態系統水、氮和碳循環研究的迫切性並綜述了國外研究進展。
5、農田水文學:採用綜合方法模擬區域尺度農田土壤的空間變異性,與農田水分和溶質運移的點模型相結合,從區域尺度上定量有關轉換量。2000年採用隨機方法和美國地質調查局的Sutra水文地質模型聯動驗證了‘因德爾曼’提出的土壤溶質平均剖面分析解,發現其因假設問題而不切合實際。
