初期生涯
不像大多數的車手，德·拉·羅薩從歐洲無線電搖控汽車開始了自己的職業生涯，並在1983年-1987年間獲得兩次歐洲無線電搖控汽車冠軍。就在那之後的1988年他參加了西班牙本地卡丁車錦標賽。他在1989參加了西班牙菲亞特方程式獲Uno冠軍。
職業生涯
在1990年，佩德羅加入了西班牙福特方程式獲1600冠軍。同年他加入英國雷諾方程式1600並在參加的6場比賽中登上2次領獎台。在1991年，佩德羅以在西班牙雷諾方程式錦標賽登上3次領獎台的成績獲得第四名。在1992 年，他贏得了歐洲和英國雷諾方程式兩項冠軍。1993年，他在英國雷諾方程式錦標賽系列比賽中綜合僅獲第6名。1994年他獲得英國F3冠軍。在1995年，他獲得日本F3冠軍以及澳門大獎賽的第三名。在1996年，佩德羅在日本F3000方程式和全日本GT中均獲第8名。第二年他就獲得日本方程式F3000和全日本GT兩項冠軍。
加入方程式
1998年，佩德羅加入一級方程式成為喬丹車隊的試車手。次年他加入了飛箭車隊在賽季中僅獲1個積分，這個積分來自與澳大利亞大獎賽。在2000年，他提高了自己的成績，他在霍根海姆賽道和紐博格林賽道各獲一個積分。在接下來的兩年中，他加入了美洲虎車隊（原稱美洲虎車隊），和隊友埃迪·埃爾文有不一般的關係。它在2001賽季得到3分，在2002賽季沒有積分，在2003年被車隊拋棄，這一年埃爾文也退役離開了美洲虎車隊。
