單曲的封面繪畫使用了與Oceanborn和Wishmaster的封面同樣的貓頭鷹。
Sacrament of Wilderness在短短几周內這張單曲就達到了芬蘭排行榜的第一位。它與之後同樣排名第一的單曲Walking in the Air被授予“金唱片”的名譽（發行量超過5000張）。

演唱會
這首歌從他們2003年的World Tour of the Century演唱會後就消失在演唱會曲單中，但2007年年末，新主唱Anette Olzon再次演繹了這首歌。這首是少有的從他們前兩張專輯中存活到現在的演唱會曲目。
現任貝斯手Marco Hietala表示不喜歡這首曲目：
“我沒覺得這首歌有什麼不好的地方。這首歌的旋律能用數學的方法推測出來，而別的歌更令人興奮因為它們不能被推測出來。當然這還是一首很好的演唱會曲目。”

這首歌的MV是1998年11月13日在Kitee（樂隊的故鄉）錄製的現場演唱視頻。除了Sami，樂隊成員都以短髮造型出現。此MV作為Bonus出現在Nightwish的第一張DVD《From Wishes to Eternity》(2001)中。
