Turning to the paragraph 17 and paragraph 18, I find something is interesting, and it is worth reading. After admiring that lucky woman, the author talks something about herself. She admits that she is a showoff.
In paragraph 17, the author takes her first punishment of some poems for Instance to describe how does she show off. She uses exaggeration in this paragraph to express that she has need to show off. In addition, she wants to tell us this behavior maybe a permissible form of showing off. It must be noted the sentence “ …… a Real Live Published Poet”. No doubt, the author deliberately capitalizes the first letter to emphasize her pride in being a published poet. She tells everyone her triumphs, not only acquaintance, but strangers as well.
In paragraph 18, the sentence “fortunately for everyone, I eventually-- it took me a while--calmed down.” causes me to stopstopping .Here, the author talks in a humorous tone. While my understanding is: it is fortunate for everyone that she eventually clamed down, though it took her some times. Otherwise, everyone would be told about her triumphs that she was the real live published poet.
In my view, the author writes these two paragraphs to express that we really have some sort of need to show off, and sometimes we cannot control ourselves. It is a normal human behavior.
