現任北京大學醫學部公共衛生學院勞動衛生與環境衛生學系主任、教授。主要學術團體兼職有中國環境科學學會常務理事及環境醫學與健康分會主任委員和室內環境與健康分會副主任委員、中華預防醫學會環境衛生分會副主任委員、中國毒理學會理事及環境與生態毒理專業委員會副主任委員、北京預防醫學會環境衛生專業委員會主任委員、國家環境與健康諮詢委員會委員、國際環境流行學學會政策委員會委員等。
郭新彪教授的研究方向為環境醫學和環境毒理學。近年來的研究主要集中在環境污染物,特別是空氣污染物的暴露和健康效應評價、環境健康危險度評價和環境健康促進。郭新彪教授的研究工作得到了國家自然科學基金、教育部、衛生部、科技部、環境保護部、北京大學、日本日中醫學會、日本公害基金以及美國NIH等的資助。郭教授曾主持國家十一五科技支撐計畫重點課題“機動車尾氣對健康影響的評價技術研究”，還擔任國家十二五863計畫項目首席專家。郭新彪教授作為第一作者或責任作者在國內外學術期刊發表論文論著100多篇，主編或參編教材、著作20多部。
