此書是國內第一部系統研究語法轉喻的著作。作者在全面總結國內外修辭轉喻、概念轉喻以及語法轉喻研究的基礎上，提出了三角模型來統一解釋英、漢、俄等語言中的語法轉喻現象，認為語法轉喻是由相互作用的形式結構、概念結構和邏輯結構構成，概念結構里轉喻始源域和目標域映射的可塑性認知操作調節著形式結構和邏輯結構之間的語義矛盾，由此來說明形式結構的簡約性和句義的豐富性；同時，對概念結構中始源域產生的語境以及形式結構中成分配置的制約等問題也作了系統的論述。此書是對認知語法理論的深入探索，對語法研究中的一些難點問題進行了新的解釋，對語法研究者具有參考價值。
