全書共分兩冊，第冊80學時，共160學時；有29篇課文、23篇對話、304條專業術語和20篇閱讀材料。兩冊教材區安排新單詞和新詞組約1500個左右。為適應中國民航成人公共英語教學的需要，結合幾年來我們在大專班的英語教學實踐，我們編寫了這套教材，作為中國民航管理幹部學院大專班各類非英語專業的基礎英語教材，使用對象是具有初級英語水平的成人學員。教學目標是通過語音、語法、辭彙及課文教學使學員掌握英語基礎知識和民航基本知識，提高運用英語的基本能力，為專業英語學習打下較好的基礎；在適當進行聽、說訓練的同時，達到提高閱讀能力的主要的目的。
