主要經歷
1982年畢業於蘭州大學外語系，獲文學學士學位，同年在西北政法學院任教。1985年5月至1986年9月在澳大利亞國立大學思想史研究所做訪問學者。1988年在美國哥倫比亞大學做訪問學者，1991年取得美國哈佛大學法學碩士學位，1995年取得哈佛大學法學博士學位。1995年到1998年在貝克·麥肯思國際律師事務所工作，1998年3月至6月為北京大學訪問教授，1998年8月任哈佛大學法學院高級研究員、講師，2000年始受聘於香港中文大學政治與行政學系。2002年起受聘為西北政法大學特聘教授。自2012年1月起，被美國康奈爾大學法學院聘為the Anthony W. and Lulu C. Wang 講席教授。2013年11月起受聘為杭州師範大學法學院教授。
先後師從澳大利亞國立大學卡門卡教授、悉尼大學鄭汝純教授，美國哥倫比亞大學愛德華教授、哈佛大學安守廉、格倫登、米諾等教授。主要研究方向為法理學、法律與社會理論、法律文化、香港憲政、司法改革。曾應吉林大學、中國政法大學、山東大學威海分校之邀，以當代西方法理學為主題講學，為國內法理學學者、學生講授當代西方法律理論。
