簡介
奧林匹克聖歌（Olympic Anthem）1896年在雅典第1屆奧運會的開幕式上，國王喬治一世宣布奧運會開幕以後，合唱隊唱起了一首莊嚴而動聽的歌曲《奧林匹克聖歌》。這是一首古希臘歌曲，由希臘人薩馬拉（Spirou Samara）作曲，帕拉馬斯（Kostis Palamas）作詞，但當時並未確定其為奧運會會歌。
此後的歷屆奧運會均由東道主確定會歌，未形成統一的會歌形式。如1936年柏林奧運會的會歌是施特勞斯特意為這屆奧運會所作的《奧林匹克之歌》；1948年奧運會則選用奎爾特作曲、基普林作詞的《不為自己而為主》作為會歌。20世紀50年代以後有人建議重新創作新曲，作為永久性的會歌，但幾經嘗試都不能令人滿意。
於是，國際奧委會在1958年於東京舉行的第55次全會上最後確定還是用《奧林匹克聖歌》作為奧林匹克會歌。其樂譜存放於國際奧委會總部。從此以後，在每屆奧運會的開、閉幕式上都能聽到這首悠揚的古希臘樂曲。
