查德·克羅格是著名搖滾樂隊Nickelback的樂隊主唱。Nickelback最早成立於加拿大的小城Hanna（漢娜鎮town of Hanna），最初的成員是Chad Kroeger(主唱/吉他手)，他的兄弟Mike Kroeger(貝斯手)，他們的表兄弟Brandon，以及他們的好朋友Ryan Peake(吉他手)。他們開始演唱一些歌星的歌曲。
1996年，Chad Kroeger向他的繼父借了4000塊錢跑到了溫哥華一個朋友的錄音室里錄製歌曲，其間，Brandon離開了樂隊，他們的朋友Ryan Vikedal接任了鼓手一職。這一年，他們發行了一張EP唱片《Hesher》，並且發行了一張獨立專輯《Curb》，並且開始了巡迴演出，但是他們是沒有絲毫名氣的，他們花費大量時間去散發宣傳材料和廣告，以及發動親戚朋友向電台打電話要求播放他們的歌曲，從而使樂隊得到一定程度上的宣傳，並且擁有了自己第一批較為固定的歌迷。
