雖然她出生在紐約，但卻是在沙凡那港市長大。她小的時候在教堂合唱團里唱歌的經歷對她的音樂有很大的影響。
2001年，Kristina在Blue Note Records做了一次小展示，當時Bruce Lundvall和Arif Mardin就相中了她，想跟她簽約，為她以後的發展做打算，但是她的母親堅持女兒應該以學業為重，所以Kristina聽取了母親的意見，繼續上大學，畢業之後，Kristina就發行了她的第一張專輯《Spilt Milk》。
