Maria Mena出生於挪威藝術世家，母親是舞台劇作家，父親是鼓手。這對浪漫而藝術氣息濃厚的夫妻甚至連兒女的名字都根據名劇《西城故事》的男女主角而命名Maria和Tony。受到父親的影響，Maria從小就接觸喜愛音樂，父母離婚帶給9歲的Maria極大的衝擊和心理傷害，13歲搬去和父親居住的Maria用唱歌和歌詞創作當作舒發心靈的治療。
