本書由著名敦煌學研究專家柴劍虹和劉進寶共同撰寫，是一本講述敦煌歷史溯源及其文化藝術發展的普及讀物。該書以圖文並茂的形式從敦煌歷史溯源、莫高窟的營建、藏經洞與敦煌遺書、敦煌寶藏的流失、敦煌壁畫和彩塑藝術等幾個方面，深入淺出地進行解讀，全面展現敦煌1650餘年的歷史。全書配有45幅珍貴歷史照片及高清精美壁畫彩塑圖片，另附一張由中國國家圖書館敦煌資料中心提供的《敦煌文獻收藏單位一覽表》，堪稱一本集知識性、實用性、藝術性和時代性於一體的敦煌文化簡明讀本。
Dunhuang, co-authored by Chai Jianhong and Liu Jinbao, both renowned Dunhuangologists,
introduces to general readers the history and culture of Dunhuang, a city in the People’s Republic
of China. With 45 precious historical photos and beautiful HD mural paintings as well as a list of institutions
with the collection of Dunhuang literature provided by the Dunhuang Resource Center of the
National Library of China, the book offers an authoritative interpretation of the city’s over 1650
years of history, the building of the Mogao Caves, the discovery of the Library Cave and the loss of
its treasures, and the murals and colored sculptures in the grottos of Dunhuang. It is concisely
informative and considerately practical with artistic originality.
作者簡介
柴劍虹，中國敦煌吐魯番學會顧問、敦煌研究院兼職研究員、浙江大學、中國人民大學等高校兼職教授。1966 年北京師範大學中文系畢業後志願赴新疆教學，1978年師從啟功先生攻讀中國古代文學碩士研究生。1981年到中華書局工作，曾任文學編輯室編輯、《文史知識》雜誌副主編兼編輯部主任、漢學編輯室主任、編審，因在新聞出版事業上的突出貢獻自1993年10月起享受政府特殊津貼。 劉進寶，浙江大學歷史系主任、博士生導師，兼任國家社科基金學科評審專家、中國敦煌石窟保護研究基金會理事、中國敦煌吐魯番學會理事、中國唐史學會理事、浙江省敦煌學與絲綢之路研究會副會長。長期從事敦煌吐魯番文書、絲綢之路暨西北史地、隋唐五代史研究，著有《敦煌學述論》《敦煌文書與唐史研究》《敦煌學通論》《絲綢之路敦煌研究》等。
