作者簡介
威廉•薩默塞特•毛姆 W. Somerset Maugham（1874—1965），英國著名小說家、劇作家、短篇小說作家。一度從醫，後轉而致力於寫作。作品繼承了英國現實主義的傳統，常以冷靜、諷刺乃至憐憫的態度審視人生，幽默犀利，基調超然。長篇小說代表作有《人性的枷鎖》《月亮和六便士》《刀鋒》等。
毛姆為當時世界最負盛名的短篇小說家，他的短篇以編織故事的精湛技巧，對人性和社會生活的敏銳洞察，為其贏得了眾多讀者且歷久不衰，成為一種全球現象。
