Lady Gaga是歐美新生代流行音樂歌手，在1986年3月28日出生於美國紐約曼哈頓區的一個義大利後裔家庭，本名史蒂芬妮·喬安娜·安潔莉娜·傑爾曼諾塔〔Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta〕，是家中的長女。
“我是為了音樂而生的”，Gaga傲人的音樂天賦從小時候起便展露無遺。在4歲時她僅靠聆聽便學會了彈奏鋼琴；13歲時寫下自我創作的第一首敘事抒情曲；14歲時就開始在公開場合進行演唱，嶄露頭角；17歲時被紐約大學音樂系看中，提前錄取（像這樣難得的名額每年僅20個）。
事與願違，為了實現從小的音樂夢想，Gaga毅然決然地放棄了在學校繼續深造的機會，進入美國的“社會大學”開始摸爬滾打。她拋開殷實的家境，不顧父母的勸阻，孤身一人在紐約的地下酒吧以唱歌和跳舞來維持生計。
成名前的2006年1月，Gaga與Def Jam唱片公司簽約，以真名推出首張個人搖滾EPRed and Blue，但在3個月後因EP成績不理想，她遭到公司無情的解約。那時候的她處於人生的最低谷，“我每天不是在吸食毒品，就是在哭，像個瘋子一般”。但在那段最為黑暗的歲月里，她也始終沒有放棄心中的信念，繼續進行創作。
