1976 年至 1984 年在 Carnegie-Mellon 大學核科學與工程專業任教， 1984 年進入美國西屋公司從事堆芯技術研發工作，“任西屋公司亞洲區堆芯技術合作經理，在西屋電氣 - 上海核工院工程合作中心工作。”趙榮安教授在國際反應堆物理與計算方法領域貢獻良多，尤其在六角形節塊法、粗格線有限差分法、堆芯裝料方案最佳化搜尋方法、堆芯時 - 空中子動力學以及動態刻棒及次臨界下刻棒法等方面，做出了開創性的貢獻。 2002 年，趙榮安教授被評為美國核學會榮譽會員（ ANS Fellow ）。 2004 年 4 月，受聘擔任上海交大客座教授， 2007 年 4 月，柔性引進至上海交大核科學與工程學院。
研究領域及方向:
反應堆物理的理論與計算方法；核燃料管理最佳化；反應堆物理在堆芯測試上的套用
