Initially published in 1986, Jiangsu Province Yearbook is administrated by the General Office of the People's Government of Jiangsu Province and hosted by the Office of the Local Annals Editorial Committee, Jiangsu Province. It is the annual informative document that thoroughly records important events and gives detailed explanations of the current situations of natural environment, economy, politics, culture, society and ecological construction in Jiangsu.Starting from the year 2012, the English version of Jiangsu Province Yearbook will be compiled and published annually in order to provide foreign friends with basic knowledge of and detailed information about Jiangsu's development in recent years. As a principal source-bank for the oversea publicity of the province, the yearbook is also aimed at offering essential data to foreign observers and researchers for their study and understanding of Jiangsu and China. The English version of Jiangsu Province Yearbook 2011 is compiled on the basic sources and information about Jiangsu's recent development in natural environment, economy, culture, society and ecological construction in 2010. The yearbook consists of five parts: Introduction to Jiangsu Province, Chronicle of Important Events, Review of the Work in 2010, Appendix, and Index. “Review of the Work in 2010” serves as the main body of the yearbook, covering 21 subjects: Legislation, International Affairs and Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Affairs, Public Finance, Income and Consumption, Manufacturing Industry, Service Industry, Agriculture, International Economy and rade, Infrastructures, Ecological Environment, Urban and Rural Development, Science and Technology, Education, Culture, Mass Media, Medical Treatment and Public Health, Sports, Human Resources, Social Welfare, Social Organizations and Services, and Public Orders. The data and reference sources quoted in this book are provided by the relevant departments of the governments at the different levels in Jiangsu Province; the appendix.is compiled by Jiangsu Statistics Bureau; and the photographs insertedare contributed by various cooperative and partner institutes of Jiangsu Province Yearbook. The English version of Jiangsu Province Yearbook is completed and edited by Jiang Ningkang as the editor in chief of this volume. Given that it is the first English version of Jiangsu Province Yearbook, the editorial board decides to situate the time domain within the year 2010, but extends the span of time slightly to 2009 or 2011 for the use of necessary sources and pictures. All currencies are stated in RMB (yuan) unless otherwise stated. Along with the publication of the English version of Jiangsu Province Yearbook^ the electronic book will appear simultaneously in the market with checking functions as well as new-media application programs for cell-phone or Tablet PC. The electronic book, as the carrier of Jiangsu Province Yearbook, will be launched and marketed on line through App Stores.
