本書第一版於2011年8月面世，現已售罄，我遂借再版之際對之進行修訂。此次重拾舊作，令我終於領悟美國國際私法學家艾倫茨威格(Ehrenzweig)所言之真諦：任何書籍，第一版都不應出版。本次修訂，除修正錯誤與不當之處以外，我將主要精力放在內容的更新上。然而，由於近年來立法與判例變化甚大，加之學術論著與國際條約也有諸多發展，這個努力一經開始，就變成了無休止的苦差事。
以下僅提及幾處重要發展：2012年8月31日，第11屆全國人大常委會第28次會議通過了《關於修改〈中華人民共和國民事訴訟法〉的決定》，新修訂的“民事訴訟法”已於2013年1月1日生效;2012年12月10日，最高人民法院審判委員會第1563次會議通過了《最高人民法院關於適用〈中華人民共和國涉外民事關係法律適用法〉若干問題的解釋(一)》，該司法解釋已自2013年1月7日起施行。此外，一些外法域的法院改變了判例法，其中有些判例對中國國際私法的發展起到了直接或間接的影響。儘管這些變化，其本身尚稱不上革命，但是，由於覆蓋的領域廣、數量大，因此，這些變化疊加在一起，對中國際私法的影響，絕不容小覷。此次修訂本書，因而以全面體現3年來中國國際私法在各領域的變化與發展為原則。
