男,1963年生於甘肅省漳縣。1980-1984就讀於北京林業大學園林專業,獲園林學士學位;1991年於北京林業大學獲園林植物博士學位,導師陳俊愉教授。1994-1995由國家公派赴英國德蒙福特大學( De Montfort University)進行了為期一年的博士後研究。1996-1998年在荷蘭(Vrije University of Amsterdam)做高級訪問學者6個月。2002年10月赴美國俄勒岡州立大學(Oregon State University)進行為期三個月的訪問研究(21世紀教育振興行動計畫:高等學校系主任出國計畫資助)。1993年晉升副教授,1995年晉升教授。現為華中農業大學園藝林學學院院長,博士生導師。
