1、提出並系統地研究了“無模型自適應控制理論”,該方法擺脫了控制系統設計對系統模型的依賴問題。所提出的概念和定理已被多本專著和國內外幾百名學者直接引用,其中兩本由Springer出版;代表性論文發表在美國控制會議(ACC)、IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology、IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks等權威會議和學術刊物上。出版專著“非參數模型及其自適應控制理論,科學出版社,1999”、“Model Free Adaptive Control: Theory and Applications, Springer, 2012”。無模型自適應控制目前已經在50餘個實際過程系統上得到套用。進一步系統地研究了“數據驅動控制”,目前該領域的研究已經得到國內外學者的高度關注,2010年國家自然科學基金委員會項目申請指南中有關於“數據驅動控制”的重點項目群,2012年國家自然科學基金委員會的“十二五”發展規劃中也列有此條目。
2、 提出了系列的“基於交通系統重複性特徵的交通系統(道路交通和鐵路)學習控制、辨識和預報方法”,該方法研究了交通系統重複性運行特徵模式的利用問題,從而使得基於重複性特徵模式設計的交通信號控制系統、辨識方法具有學習功能並且最後收斂。其預報算法能具有長程預報能力。代表性論文發表在IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems、Transportation Research-Part C、International Journal of Control等國際交通領域頂級期刊;
3、 給出了若干針對非嚴格重複運行的非線性系統的疊代學習控制方案,包括離散時間自適應疊代學習控制、高階內模的疊代學習控制、無模型自適應疊代學習控制等,推動了疊代學習控制理論研究,拓廣疊代學習控制方法的套用。相應結果發表在IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control、Automatica、IEEE/ASME Transactions on Journal of Dynamic Systems Measurement and Control等國際自動控制領域頂級期刊上。
