Philosophical ideas of different schools such as Confucian, Taoist, Legalist,Mohist, Nominalist, Military Strategist,Yin and Yang, and Agriculturist in periods prior to the Qin Dynasty (221-202 B.C.) are expounded and analyzed against their times in the book. In addition, the book presents the authors' personal views on the category of Chinese philosophy and the relations between traditional Chinese thoughts and modem sciences.

作者介紹

何兆武，1921年生，西南聯合大學研究生畢業，先後任職於中國社會科學院（及其前身中國科學院哲學社會科學學部）歷史研究所、清華大學思想文化研究所，現為清華大學歷史系教授。著有《歷史理性批判論集》、《中西文化交流史論集》、《上學記》等，參與侯外廬主編《中國思想通史》、《宋明理學史》的寫作，譯有盧梭《社會契約論》、康德《歷史理性批判文集》、帕斯卡《思想錄》等。

彭剛，1969年生，先後就讀於北京大學、清華大學、中國社會科學院研究生院，現為清華大學歷史系副教授。著有《精神、自由與歷史》等，譯有《自然權利與歷史》、《德國的歷史觀》、《邂逅：後現代主義之後的歷史哲學》等。
