14歲，亞歷克斯開始創作自己的歌曲，並組建了幾個樂隊。由於得不到注意，且樂隊成員經常變更，沒有錄製任何專輯。
2005年，亞歷克斯厭倦了在樂隊的日子，他把自己關在車庫一個星期，身邊只有一把吉他，一個鍵盤，以及錄音機和麥克風。他寫了一些歌曲，在磁帶上寫上“the weatherman”，把它寄給了幾個獨立廠牌；最終，亞歷克斯吸引了獨立廠牌ONE的興趣，並簽約製作一整張專輯。the weatherman樂隊也慢慢成形。
2006年，the weatherman的第一張專輯《Cruisin’ Alaska》問世，它的發布取的了巨大的成功，獲得了評論家的一致好評。此專輯被bodyspace.net評為網站年度最佳專輯。
