創作背景

該歌曲的演唱者綠日的成員比利·喬·阿姆斯特朗在接受Q雜誌採訪的時候，表示《21 Guns》是想表達一種愛國的情懷，闡明了反戰主題，同時安慰了對曾經信任過的布希政府如今失望透頂的美國民眾。2009年12月7日，《21 Guns》被比利·喬·阿姆斯特朗重新創作，並於2009年12月22日以數字單曲形式重新發行，演出過《美國偶像》音樂劇的學員也參與了演唱及創作。

《21 Guns》的吉他演奏與綠日的經典之作《Boulevard of Broken Dreams》十分相似，風格及旋律於Mott the Hoople’s《All the Young Dudes》十分相似。音樂風格包括成人抒情、另類流行、搖滾、朋克復興等，十分多元化。在音樂結構上，《21 Guns》的音調主要為B及C小調，歌曲內部被設有約每分鐘84次的節拍樂器。作為錄唱歌手，綠日的音域位於D4和G5之間。

《21 Guns》的MV於2008年5月25日發行，由Marc Webb執導。該歌曲的所在專輯《21st Century Breakdown》內兩位虛構的主人公Christian和Gloria都有在MV中出現，前者由Josh Boswell飾演，後者由由Lisa Stelly飾演。
