1.more用作副詞是many和much的比較級,可構成多數兩個或兩個以上音節的形容詞或副詞的比較級,但通常不可構成表示方位、絕對或極限意義、時間概念、事物的性質或結構成分、順序或含明確數學概念、幾何形狀或以or結尾等的形容詞或副詞的比較級。通常也不可與形容詞或副詞的比較級形式連用。
2.more在以下情況可以用於單音節形容詞前:①more後接than結構作表語表示同一人或事物的兩種特性對比; ②後接than結構作賓語補足語或表語,表示前後兩種情況對比; ③作具有描寫或強調意義的後置定語; ④以兩個輔音字母結尾的單音節形容詞; ⑤需要強調的形容詞；⑥與多音節形容詞並列使用的形容詞; ⑦fond, right等或由過去分詞變來的形容詞時,可用於單音節形容詞之前; ⑧用在the more..., the more...結構中。
3.在表示兩者中“較…一個”時, more前要加定冠詞。
4.more可單獨用作插入語,在含意上接近於what's more,也可在動詞後單獨使用。
5.more than結構後可接數詞,表示在數量上“超過”某種程度,此時可接含有can的從句,表示否定; 也可接形容詞、副詞或動詞,表示程度,意為“非常”;還可接名詞或動詞等,意為“不只是”,此時,可用more than one在句中修飾主語,儘管從意義上看是複數內容,但句子的謂語動詞套用單數形式,但如果以more than one直接充當主語,謂語動詞可是單數,也可是複數; 如果“more+複數名詞+than one”作主語時,謂語動詞套用複數。
