梅瑞迪斯是足球運動早期的超級巨星之一，曾經習慣在場上叼著牙籤進行比賽，當時足球並無明確的位置分工，不過梅瑞迪斯最喜歡在右邊路活動。梅瑞迪斯在49歲那年仍然在足總杯中進球，直到49歲零245天時還參加了曼城對紐卡斯爾聯隊的足總杯半決賽，成為賽事歷史上最年長的參賽者。

梅瑞迪斯死後長期不起眼的埋葬在公眾墓地，不過後來英格蘭職業足球運動員協會、威爾斯足球協會、曼聯和曼城聯合徵得他94歲的女兒的同意，為其修建了新的墓碑。2007年，梅瑞迪斯入選英格蘭足球名人堂。
