Nickelback樂隊於1996年成立於加拿大的一個小城Hanna，以搖滾(Rock) /另類(alternative)/新金屬(Nu-Metal)/post-grunge(後車庫音樂/後垃圾音樂)為他們的風格。在經過了一段時間的發展之後，2000年初，他們的第二張獨立專輯《The State》正式發行，使他們迅速竄紅。之後，他們的又一張專輯《Sliver Side Up》在美國也大獲成功。2005年，他們的第五張專輯《All the Right Reasons》更是在全球賣出了約千萬張。在2008年11月18日，Nickelback發行了他們的第六張專輯《Dark House》，《Gotta Be Somebody》便選自這張專輯。

背景

"Gotta Be Somebody"由製作人Ray Hedges, Nigel Butler, Cutfather和David Kopatz製作。在與Digital Spy的採訪中，Shayne Ward談到了選擇一首翻唱作品作為新專輯首單的原因：“音樂風格從Rock到Pop/R&B的整個轉變令我非常興奮，並且這種轉變確實在我的音樂中得到了體現，拿這首歌作為首單為新專輯Obsession造勢是再合適不過的了。我並沒有把它看做一個翻唱作品，這是一首非常好的歌，在錄製之前的很長一段時間我都沒有聽它，但是我馬上就進入了狀態，因為這首歌的副歌太容易上口了！”，據Ward說，這首歌是關於希望的，“這首歌有很好的寓意，它代表著希望，總有那么一個人一直在支持我們，幫助我們。”這首歌的MV是於2010年9月27日在洛杉磯拍攝的，並於2010年10月29日在Youtube上首映。
