Q-Tip用手上的MPC2000XL蓋住自己的臉好像就在提醒所有人，他是歷史最棒的rapper/producer，他能說能做，他擁有著不少人嫉妒的奶油嗓音，他為ATCQ（A Tribe Called Quest）創造過無數經典，製作人身份的Q-Tip更是跨越hip hop/urban，為Nas，Mariah Carey，Whitney Houston這樣的天王天后製作唱片，還曾經調教過J Dilla（R.I.P.）這樣的優秀製作人。
不過Q-Tip的個人事業在ATCQ（A Tribe Called Quest）解體後並不怎么順利。除了在1999年發行了一張《Amplified》（《Kamaal the Abstract》沒有正式發行過）之外，Q-Tip毫無任何做為，而且在6年的時間內Q-Tip竟然換了5個東家（唱片公司），這在hip hop歷史上也應該算作一個記錄了。
可能是ATCQ（A Tribe Called Quest）的在2006年的再次聚首（為著名遊戲NBA 2K7錄製原聲）激發了Q-Tip的鬥志，在這2年中Q-Tip異常高調，除了出現在各種演出中，Q-Tip還得到了傳奇公司Motown的契約，在9年之後Q-Tip終於發行了自己的第2張錄音室專輯《The Renaissance》。這和AZ的境遇有點相似，《9 Lives》讓AZ的個人事業跌入低谷，一年後AZ也是在Motown發行了《Aziatic》來重振旗鼓。
你可以確定這是2008年？不是1994年？Q-Tip在2008年的大環境下還可以帶來這樣的作品，實在太讓人驚喜了，我們仿佛回到了ATCQ（A Tribe Called Quest）發行Beats, Rhymes And Life的那個年代，有了Johnny Is Dead來打頭陣，我們有什麼理由不去期待剩下的歌曲？
Gettin’ Up是專輯的首波主打，在製作上Gettin’ Up和underground時下正流 行的手法沒有太大不同，Q-Tip在這首歌展示了一個成熟紳士的魅力，整首歌的韻腳都壓的非常舒服，個人尤其喜歡verse 2。

專輯在開始的階段一直都給人驚艷的感覺，但是由於製作上的單一，到後面的時候我們就有了些許枯燥的感覺，兩位neo-soul大師D’Angelo，Raphael Saadiq的適時出現，剛好在一定程度上緩解了我們的審美疲勞。尤其是Believe，D’Angelo完全搶走了Q-Tip的風頭，這首歌從開始到結束，個人腦子盤旋的都是D’Angelo的hook，根本沒在意Q-Tip說了什麼。囧
相信有不少人聽到Move的第一反應，就是確定一下自己是否放的Donuts。沒錯這首歌的製作人確實是J Dilla（R.I.P.），也許是J Dilla（R.I.P.）採樣了Jackson 5的名曲Dancing Machine的緣故，這首歌的MV就是一個山寨版的Rock with You（Michael Jackson的名曲之一），別說Q-Tip長的和Michael Jackson還是有那么幾分相似。
Dance On Glass和Life Is Better的話題都是關於hip hop本身，Life Is Better的beat更為花哨，而且還有Norah Jones這樣的巨星加盟，但是還是樸實無華的Dance On Glass更的我心。
