樂隊的正式記錄始於2002年，那個夏天他們的第一張E.P - Black Rooster 在Domino旗下發行，隨後 The People., Fried My Little Brains也緊接著發行。在03年的年初，The Kills終於發行了他們的處女專輯，Keep On Your Mean Side。專輯也得到了包括NME在內的媒體的一致推崇。在沉寂2年之後，The Kills又在2005年初又推出了No Wow。
The Kills由美國女孩VV和英國男孩Hotel組成，深受地下絲絨、 PJ Harvey和The Jesus and Mary Chain的影響。
來自Florida 的 VV( Alison Mosshart ) 和來自倫敦的Hotel ( Jamie Hince)六年前相遇於倫敦南部。在VV回到Florida後，他們最初的交流維繫在mail.唱片以及偶爾昂貴的國際長途上。終於在2000年的時候，VV遷入了Hotel在Gypsy Hill的住所。他們分別給了對方一個藝名. The Kills就此誕生。或者更確切的說，在他們相遇之日就已誕生。是的，這是只屬於他們兩個人的團隊，簡單，直接。這是僅屬於他們的，還需要其他的成員么，不，明顯的，任何其他的人均將成為入侵者。
