R&B天后Mary J. Blige(瑪麗布萊姬)，1971年1月11日，Mary J. Blige出生在美國紐約最北部的The Bronx區，但是她早年的時光確實在喬治亞州的港口城市Savannah度過的，後來她和母親、姐姐一起搬到了紐約東南部的Yonkers，但是童年帶給她的只有創傷。不久她從高中輟學，和她的母親一起打點理髮室。在她16歲時，有一次她在紐約White Plains的一家卡拉OK演唱Anita Baker的《Caught Up in the Rapture》，並錄製成了磁帶，她的聲音就把Uptown Records唱片公司的總裁Andre Harrell吸引住了，很快她就得到了該公司的契約，但開始她只是在公司做些幕後工作，比如給大牌歌手做背景和聲等。　直到1992年，她得到了肖恩·康伯斯即吹牛老爹（Sean “Puffy“ Combs）的協助，在他的製作下，Mary J.
