這支單曲於2008年3月9日在英國以網路下載的形式發行，並在隔日發行了實體單曲碟，發行這張單曲也是為了支持Sport Relief。這首歌為了單曲的發行，於開端部分的鼓點拍節前加入了一段鋼琴伴奏。從2008年2月11日起，Better in Time創造了BBC電台點播周記錄。

歌曲評價
回顧《Spirit》這張專輯，韓國的“Times（時代周刊）”這樣形容這首歌：“《Better In Time》是專輯中最好的歌曲之一，輕柔的鋼琴聲與Leona賦有力量的聲音完美的融合在一起，使人印象深刻。”然而“Digital Spy”的評價卻不高，他們評論這是“很平常的事”，“就像是plinky-plonky式的鋼琴和老一套的R&B，感覺很不舒服，緊接著就是Leona Lewis有點奶油式的唱腔。”

《Footprints in the Sand》在正式發行三星期前的2月24號初次登上“UK Singles Chart（英國單曲銷量排行榜）”便排在了74名，卻未能進入下一周的榜單。“Better In Time”首次登上榜單便排在38名，不久便衝到了23名。當正式發行實體單曲之後，立馬從21名攀升至第二名。它賣出了40,476張單曲，僅落後當時的冠軍Duffy的“Mercy”302張。這首單曲在英國2008年最暢銷單曲中排名第38名。這張雙A-Side單曲賣出200,000張時得到了銀唱片認證。
