《高級醫學英語閱讀與寫作》是在總結國內外語言教學、教材編寫經驗的基礎上編寫的，具有下列特色。

實用性

雖然現在的學生如前所述在聽、說、讀方面能力較強，但寫作是明顯的短板。原因在於，寫作水平不像聽說那樣可以在短時間內強化提高，而是沒有捷徑可走的（很多學生背了一些所謂的“漂亮”句子，但其冠詞運用等基本能力總是“露”了他們的底）。真正提高寫作能力不僅需要學生、也需要教師的大量投入。在主觀意願和客觀條件有限的情況下，本教材精選最有用的技能項目，將輸入和輸出相結合（從閱讀中學習寫作），精講精練；同時根據多年的教學經驗指明學生容易犯的錯誤及其改正方法，使學生明白前進方向。另外，第一單元中對醫學英語辭彙讀音的解說以及附錄中配套的構詞成分都是編者長期研究心血的結晶，使用者一定會獲益良多。

趣味性

被作為高級（研究）人才培養的研究生理應具備熟練運用相關專業英語的能力。綜合性大學學科專業眾多，眾口難調；但人數較多的醫學院研究生可以共同學習醫學英語。不過。以往絕大多數醫學英語教材枯燥乏味，缺乏生活和文化氣息。本教材特別注意日常、科普、專業例句相結合，編排多樣化；並將“醫學英語特殊詞尾變化”、“醫學英語論文常用語句”、“常用構詞成分”等內容做成“補白”、表格、附錄等形式，避免長篇大論的醫學內容（也免得與“全英文專業課”相混淆）；還可通過大量課件進行補充。

先進性

醫學研究生掌握英語的最終目的是獲取信息、交流信息，而現在使用最多的平台是網路。我們已在此方面進行了幾年的探索，英語醫學網路資源的利用與英語語言教學相結合是我院的一個深受學生歡迎的特色。這樣就能將醫學英語技能培養（其變化相對較緩）和最新的醫學科學（其發展日新月異）語言材料有機地結合起來；同時還能以網路資源作為外延，使學生在追蹤各自學科領域最新進展的過程中提高自主學習和開放性思維的能力。
