常綠灌木，分枝多，小枝有棱，綠色，幼時有短柔毛。葉革質，互生，卵形或卵狀橢圓形、橢圓狀披針形，長3～6厘米，寬1～2.5厘米，先端長漸尖，基部楔形或圓形，全緣，上面深綠色，具光澤，羽狀脈，側脈不明顯；葉柄長3～5毫米。花單性，雌雄同株，腋生，常成總狀花序，雌花生於基部；花白色，無花瓣；萼片4～6，雄花雄蕊4～6；雌花子房2～3室，花柱短。肉質核果，近球形。暗紅色，徑約5毫米；種子1～2粒。花期春季。生山坡疏林中、溝邊或栽培。
