《郭柏靈論文集(第6卷)》主要內容包括：Landau-Lifshitz方程（又稱鐵磁鏈方程）由於其結構的複雜性，特別是強耦合性和不帶阻尼時的強退化性，在20世紀80年代之前國內外幾乎沒有從數學上進行理論研究的成果出現。最先進行研究的，當屬周毓麟院士和郭老師，他們在1982年到1986年間，採用Leray-Schauder不動點定理、離散方法、Galerkin方法證明了從一維到高維的各種邊值問題整體弱解的存在性，比國外在1992年才出現的同類結果早了將近10年。

近年來，在郭柏靈先生的支持和幫助下，華南理工大學數學科學學院面貌發生了可喜變化。學院引進了一批青年教授和優秀博士，教學、科研水平大大提高；學院多次召開國內外學術研討會，加強了學術交流，擴大了學術影響；2005年獲得套用數學博士點、數學碩士一級學科。郭柏靈先生還舉薦多位傑出的專家教授來我校做客座教授，推薦我校青年教師到香港、北京學習訪問，為我校青年教師的培養作出了很大貢獻。
2006年《郭柏靈論文集》前三卷正式出版，內容涵蓋了郭柏靈先生及其合作者1995年以前的工作，受到國內外同行廣泛關注。現在，文集出版到第六卷，所收錄的論文截止到2004年。
《郭柏靈論文集》的出版得到華南理工大學、北京套用物理與計算數學研究所苗長興研究員、廈門大學譚紹濱教授的大力資助。文集的出版過程得到李元元校長、范家巧社長、吳敏院長的關心和支持，還得到華南理工大學出版社潘宜玲副社長、喬麗副總編的幫助，我們在此表示衷心感謝。華南師範大學丁時進教授、中山大學殷朝陽教授、廣州大學尚亞東教授、北京套用物理與計算數學研究所孔令海博士和蒲學科博士、華南理工大學劉正榮教授和唐民英副教授等人對論文的蒐集整理給予了極大幫助，華南理工大學數學科學學院偏微分方程方向的研究生在校對過程中也付出了辛勤勞動，在此一併表示衷心感謝。

序言
今年是恩師郭柏靈院士70壽辰，華南理工大學出版社決定出版《郭柏靈論文集》。郭老師的弟子，也就是我的師兄弟，推舉我為文集作序。這使我深感榮幸。我於1985年考入北京套用物理與計算數學研究所，師從郭柏靈院士和周毓麟院士。研究生畢業後我留在研究所工作，繼續跟隨郭老師學習和研究偏微分方程理論。老師嚴謹的治學作風和對後學的精心培養與殷切期望，給我留下了深刻的印象，同時老師在科研上的刻苦精神也一直深深地印在我的腦海中。
郭老師1936年生於福建省龍巖市新羅區龍門鎮，1953年從福建省龍巖市第一中學考入復旦大學數學系，畢業後留校工作。1963年，郭老師服從祖國的需要，從復旦大學調入北京套用物理與計算數學研究所，從事核武器研製中有關的數學、流體力學問題及其數值方法研究和數值計算工作。他全力以赴地做好了這項工作，為我國核武器的發展做出了積極的貢獻。1978年改革開放以後，他又在非線性發展方程數學理論及其數值方法領域開展研究工作，現為該所研究員、博士生導師，中國科學院院士。迄今他共發表學術論文300餘篇、專著9部，1987年獲國家自然科學三等獎，1994年和1998年兩度獲得國防科工委科技進步一等獎，為我國的國防建設與人才培養作出了巨大貢獻。
