尤金·奈達(1914—)：美國語言學家、翻譯家和翻譯理論家。1943 年獲語言學博士學位，然後長期在美國聖經 學會主持翻譯部的工作。先後訪問過90個 國家和地區，並著書立說，單獨或合作出版 了40多部書，發表論文250餘篇，是世界譯 壇的一位長青學者。

《語言與文化:翻譯中的語境》由三個部分組成：一是作者1993年在外教社出版的Language, Culture and Translating 一書的修訂版；二是根據作者1999年在我國10餘所著名外語院校巡迴講學的講稿整理而成的Contexts in Translating；三是作者近幾年同我國記者、專家和朋友的部分談話或通信。在這部新著中，奈達博士從不同側面分析了語言與文化的密切聯繫，並進而從語境角度論述怎樣處理翻譯中的種種關係和問題。
