為了順應國家大學英語教學改革的發展，廣東外語外貿大學英語教育學院在教材編寫與建設方面進行了大刀闊斧的改與嘗試，Viewpoints就是其中的一項重大舉措。
Viewpoints是我們根據新的教學要求和我校學生現有的英語水平，為了更加切實有效地培養大學生的英語綜合能力、文化素養和批判性思維，為我校二年級大學生量身定做的綜合英語教材。本書之所以命名為Viewpoints，主要是因為每個主題都涉及了一些極具有爭議性的話題，我們希望學生在學習話題的過程中對其中的不同觀點進行批判性思維，客觀地分析、深入地辨別，從而形成自己對事物的看法。
