在劇中芭比扮演梅麗婭(Merliah)，她熱愛衝浪，是馬里布的““衝浪女王”在一次比賽中，她的頭髮變成了金粉色！她驚慌的跳入海中，卻發現她可以在水下呼吸並認識了一隻叫祖瑪的海豚！她很驚訝，迷惑不解的她向爺爺（布雷克）尋求幫助，爺爺告訴她一個驚人的家族秘密：她是一條半人魚！父親“普”是人，母親是“卡利莎”人魚，父親已死，母親被囚禁。祖瑪的出現，是希望梅麗婭拯救海洋國(海之洋Oceana)——因為她是海洋國公主！原來，卡莉莎(Calissa)女王（即梅麗婭的母親）的妹妹艾莉絲(Eris)篡奪了王位！海洋國陷入一片危機！梅麗婭在兩位人魚——卡拉，夏莉（Kayla,Xylie）的幫助下，集齊三件神奇物品，打敗了艾莉絲，拯救了海洋國！她獲得了一條可以轉換身份的項鍊，可以將她變成人或人魚。這起經歷讓她懂得了與眾不同可以成為巨大的優勢。
