Laohuzui scenic spot is 50km from Yuanyang’s county seat. Terraces located in this valley have a shape of a huge flower. More than 3000 mu of terraces of various shapes, looks like a million snakes lying in the flowers. The sunlight reflecting off the water resembles sea waves and a million crawling snakes. The pattern of two galloping horses, the crouching tiger and dragon could appear in the terrace. It also resembles a 1,000-year old turtle reposing at the bottom of the valley, telling people the historical story about Hani ancestors and the terraces. This is the steepest and gorgeous terrace in Yuanyang. The field shacks in the fields look like the boats in the sea. In the west, we may see the terraces in the sea of clouds in the shape of three dragons. In the east, terraces in seven semi-circular mountains reflecting the sunlight show the image of vertical ocean.
Viewing the terraces from Laohuzui scenic spot, the beautiful scenery is just like the ink and wash painting. This peculiar landscape is famous as one of the seven most famous cultural landscapes in the world, which was newly discovered in 1993 and listed by a French newspaper. Yong· Rama, a French independent film producer, took his fiancée there, held a wedding ceremony and shot the scenic film “The Sculpture of the Earth”.
