Mr Lee Kuan Yew won his first Legislative Assembly election in 1955. He became Singapore’s first Prime Minister in 1959 when Singapore obtained internal self-government from the British. Mr Lee went on to take part in 12 elections.

作為一個中小型創業公司的創始人，李光耀的故事對我的激勵很大。他在新加坡這樣一個小的不能再小的地方，充分在本地區各個大國之間周旋，利用全球化將新加坡的利益最大化，成為亞洲的典範國家。他講究效率不喜歡爭論，是一個實用主義者，鼓勵往前跑而不是爭論各種社會制度。
李光耀說：“無論世界怎么樣，新加坡都得去接受它，因為新加坡實在小的無法改變世界。不過，我們可以嘗試最大限度利用有限的空間，在本區域的巨樹之間穿梭。”
網際網路創業者又何嘗不是？在BAT這樣的巨頭壟斷下的行業格局內，大部分網際網路創業公司小得不能再小，小到無法改變世界，但是我們可以試圖做一個網際網路行業的新加坡。
李光耀像經營一家企業一樣經營新加坡，他的策略值得所有企業家學習。
首先新加坡保持開放，與中國、美國、東南亞、日本等主要世界經濟體都保持著深層次的交往，尤其是在中國和美國之間，新加坡從來不站隊，李光耀做到了不管世界形勢怎么變，自己和這些巨頭之間永遠是朋友。雖然新加坡很小，但是李光耀能充分利用自己作為小國的信息優勢，去影響周邊的巨頭。李光耀對鄧小平改革開放的影響很深，確切說鄧小平的很多理念都來自和李光耀的交流，新加坡也因此在中國獲得了許多其他小國難以獲得的特殊資源。
然後李光耀很強調引入不同基因的外來人群，豐富新加坡的創造力。李光耀拒絕新加坡變成日本那樣的封閉社會，它積極引入外來優秀移民，並創造條件讓他們融入新加坡，變成新加坡人。創業公司又何嘗不是？一家優秀的創業公司，必須學會引進不同背景的人才，並創造條件讓他們和平相處，一家由單一背景的人組成的創業公司，必然會面臨創新乏力的困境。
當今中國網際網路社會，恰恰跟李光耀當年所處的世界一樣，巨頭爭鋒，形勢瞬息萬變，短期內巨頭很難完成洗牌，而一些老牌網際網路巨頭因為其根深蒂固的歷史文化，開始出現日益嚴重的內部問題。在這樣的形勢下，給一些中小型網際網路創業公司提供了無限的機會。
