潘明虎,1974年生於安徽全椒,1996年湖南大學本科畢業,2001年南京大學凝聚態物理專業博士畢業。之後曾在2001-2003年於中科院物理所做博士後研究。2004年赴美國於田納西大學做博士後研究。之後在2006年起在美國橡樹嶺國家實驗室作助理研究員,而後晉升為研究員。2015.1起為華中科技大學教授。

多年來主要從事凝聚態物理ˎ強關聯電子材料ˎ納米科學與材料和掃描隧道顯微技術方面的研究。2006年起在美國橡樹嶺國家實驗室擔任研究員(橡樹嶺國家實驗室是美國能源部資助的最大的國家實驗室)。擁有獨立的科研團隊和研究基金,從零開始組建高分辨掃描隧道顯微鏡實驗室。注重於強關聯過渡金屬氧化物和納米材料的研究。創建了超高真空高分辨掃描隧道顯微鏡實驗室(UHV Scanning Tunneling Microscope Laboratory),擁有多台掃描隧道顯微鏡設備(Scanning Tunneling Microscope)和超高真空生長設備。在過去的十年中,在國際知名學術期刊Nature Communications, Nano Letters, ACS Nano, PNAS, Physical Review Letter, Scientific Reports(NPG)等發表SCI論文60餘篇。多次獲邀進行學術演講和交流。曾參與多個美國能源部(DOE)資助的項目,並作為項目的負責人和主要負責人。
研究興趣:研究新型二維納米材料的電、磁、光等特性,包括石墨烯和二維過渡金屬硫化物等;以及它們在自旋電子學和納米電子器件中的套用·在原子尺度利用掃描隧道顯微鏡和掃描隧道譜研究在固體表面電荷和自旋相關現象·表面單分子和少量分子自組織·研究和發展新型掃描探針顯微鏡·生長和控制表面低維納米結構諸如納米點,納米線。
