《泳往直前》本片改編自真人真事，背景是50年代澳洲的布里斯班。東尼是家中排行第二，性格天生文靜，喜歡彈琴，因而得不到父親歡心，在父親眼中永遠是個不陰不陽怪物，但東尼和弟弟阿尊卻有游泳天份，二人在短短几年間贏盡各游泳賽事，東尼更有機會進軍奧運機會，但他卻放棄參加奧運機會，卦美留學，另闖天地，東尼最後怎樣掌握自己命運？
