1982年1月獲中國地質大學套用電子技術專業學士學位；
1995年11月獲中國科技大學信號與信息處理專業碩士學位；
1999年12月獲中國科技大學信號與通信工程專業博士學位；
1982年—1985年在中國地質大學任教；
1985年—2011年在汕頭大學工作；
2012年起在汕頭職業技術學院工作；
1990年—1992年作為國家公派訪問學者到英國合作研究；
2000-2002年被聘為香港大學工學院研究員；
1994年5月在國家高級教育行政學院教育管理研修班學習。
歷任汕頭大學“圖像處理技術廣東省重點實驗室”主任、汕頭大學科研設備處處長、工學院院長、校長助理、黨委委員、第五屆校董會董事等職。
現為中國科技大學兼職教授與博士生導師、國家自然科學基金委員會評議專家、國家863計畫同行評議專家、廣東省自然科學基金委員會同行評議專家。現任國際雜誌International Journal on Data Mining and Intelligent Information Technology Applications編委、中國電子學會雜誌《電子測量與儀器學報》編委、中國生物醫學工程學會雜誌《中國醫學物理學雜誌》編委，英國雜誌IET Signal Processing、IET Image Processing、IET Science, Measurement and Technology等國際期刊特約審稿人、美國國際一般系統論研究會中國分會理事、中國電子學會電子測量專業委員會委員、中國電子學會高級會員、廣東省圖像圖形學會常務理事、汕頭市人民政府科技諮詢委員會委員。
曾任汕頭職業技術學院院長、黨委副書記。
近年來，主持國家自然科學基金項目4項、教育部重點科技項目和廣東省重點基金項目5項，廣東省與教育部產學研合作項目以及企業合作項目多個。先後應邀到歐、美、日、澳洲、新加坡等地進行短期訪問與交流。2010年獲廣東省高等教育省級教學成果一等獎。已在IEEE Transaction on Signal Processing、IEEE Transaction on Instrumentation and Measurement、IEE Proceedings of Science, Measurement and Technology、Brain and Cognition、International Journal of Intelligent Computing and Cybernetics、《物理學報》等國內外重要學術期刊和會議上發表論文數十篇，其中50多篇被SCI和EI收錄，已出版學術專著3部，國家公示發明專利1項。
