Jiangsu Province Yearbook is a comprehensive annual data publication administrated by the General Office of the People's Government of Jiangsu Province,and organized by the Office of the Local Annals Editorial Committee of Jiangsu Province.It originated from Jiangsu Economic Yearbook,which was launched in 1986,and was renamed as Jiangsu Province Yearbook in 1991.This is the 31st volume.Starting from the year 2012,the English edition of Jiangsu Province Yearbook has been compiled and published annually,as a principal source of information for overseas publicity efforts of the province.The yearbook is also aimed at offering essential data to the international research community for their study and understanding of Jiangsu and China. This is the sixth volume of the English edition of Jiangsu Province Yearbook.The 2016Edition is compiled on the basic sources and information about Jiangsu's recent development in natural environment,politics,economy,culture,society,and ecological construction in 2015.The2016 Edition consists of 5 parts:Introduction to Jiangsu Province,Chronicle of Important Events in 2015,Annual Review,Appendix and Index.The “Annual Review” serves as the main body of the yearbook,covering 23 subjects:Local Government Organizations;Rule of Law;International Exchanges and Exchanges with China's Taiwan,Hong Kong,and Macao Regions;Income and Consumption;Public Administration;Economy;Manufacturing Industry;Service Industry;Agriculture;Foreign Trade;Infrastructure;Ecological Environment;Urban and Rural Development;Science and Technology;Education;Culture and Arts;Mass Media;Medical Service and Public Health;Sports;Human Resources;Social Security;Social Organizations and Services;and Public Safety.“Further Reading” section is compiled as company to the relevant texts in order to provide additional information.There are altogether 11 pieces of “Further Reading” and 45 tables or lists in the book. The time frame of this book is from January 1st to December 31st,2015.Yet the time span of some information and/or photographs may be slightly extended to 2014 or 2016 for the sake of completeness and consistency in narrative.Part of the content of Special Albums about major events in Jiangsu is taken from the year 2016.Map content is of December 2015. To showcase annual and regional features,the Special Albums section contains three topics:1.Winners in the Public Poster Contest with the Anti-Japanese War Theme of “Looking Back in History:Homestead,Nation,and World”;2.Achievements of the “12th Five-year Plan” Period;3.Impression of Wetlands. The texts and data quoted in this book are provided by the relevant departments of the provincial government and offices of local governments at municipal,and county(city,district)levels.The data have been edited by the Office of Jiangsu Province Yearbook Magazine and reviewed by relevant departments and offices.The photograph data are contributed by various cooperative institutes,including Jiangsu Branch of Xinhua News Agency and Jiangsu Association of Photographers.Unless otherwise stated,the unit of currency represented in the book is RMB(yuan). The statistics and related data in the appendix are compiled by Jiangsu Statistics Bureau.In order to represent the development in related domains in a systematic and comprehensive manner,the Office of Jiangsu Province Yearbook collects certain data on its own for more information to be presented in the main body of the volume. The use of short forms of institutions follows the requirements in Short Forms of Agencies of Jiangsu Provincial People's Government.For first-hand data,all numbers and units of measurement are represented in their original forms.Other numbers and units of measurement are used in relatively uniform formats.Due to different statistical sources,standards,and time,some of the data in the main body of this volume may show partial discrepancy,and it is advisable to use the data from the Jiangsu Statistics Bureau as authoritative sources. Along with the publication of the paper-based edition,the electronic book will be released simultaneously with search and retrieval functions,accompanied by new-media applications for cell-phone or Tablet PC users available on App Stores.
