《新課程標準》對一、二級規定的訓練量是每學年不少於10個小時。對中學生（五級）的聽力訓練量沒有做出明確規定。但聽力訓練當然是越多越好，這樣更容易建立起英語單詞與發音之間的條件反射，形成良好的聽力訓練習慣。
任何使用過英語進行交流的人都明白，對方說的每句話不可能全是生詞，聽不懂只存在兩種情況：真聽不懂和假聽不懂。
所謂真聽不懂指的是遇到沒學過的生詞和習語，那當然是聽不懂了。假聽不懂指的是對學過的單詞依然聽不懂，這就和發音有關係了。大多數同學背單詞時不仔細琢磨發音，而只是記單詞的意思和拼寫。閱讀時尚能應付，可到聽力實踐時就出現問題了。當時聽到的和平進背的好像是兩回事，自然也就聽不懂。正確的方法應該如聽略學習法中所說的“Make Pictures”，這樣一來聲音直接轉化成意念，省去了翻譯的過程，可以大大地提高理解能力。
基於以上兩點，我們在部分試卷的第一節設定了聽句子填單詞的練習，為熟悉相關辭彙和短語的發音特點進行專門的辨聽訓練。你聽不懂的往往就是你已經學了但沒熟練掌握的單詞。只是外國人在講話時有連續、吞音等現象使你以為是生詞而已。
因此我們認為：按時定量，精泛結合，在腦子裡把單詞、巨型或某些慣用短語的發音和讀法建立起條件反射式對應關係的聽務訓練才是最有效的。

W：I'm very sorry you’ve been disturbed．sir．But axe you enjoying your stay apart from that?
M：Well，I don’t think much of the restaurant．I can’t get a tasty plate of fish and chips．It’S all salad and fancy stuff．And the service is terrible，too．
W：Well，sir．I'm sure the waiters try to be as helpful as they can．but they axe very busy at dinner．Anyway，if there’S anything else I can do to make your stay here more pleasant，please don’t hesitate to ask me．
M：Don’t worry，I'll tell you a11 fight!
