馬克思主義的根源可以追溯到1905，當聖母兄弟購買的財產和沿哈得遜河在Poughkeepsie東海岸的Thomas McPherson一家，NY。兄弟命名的建築和財產的聖安Hermitage。1908、兄弟購買Edward Bech地產使修道院擴大。學院購買附加屬性的北部和東部，現在包括超過150英畝。

Marist is a private, liberal arts college. Founded as a college for men in 1929, it adopted coeducation in 1968. Its 150-acre campus is located in Poughkeepsie, 75 miles north of New York City.
