If you're taking up the collection，you can ease the situation by asking only those who really know the recipient to participate. Rather than exclude anyone，though，offer the choice to someone who may not want to contribute：“I’m taking up a collection to buy Mary a wedding gift，but I know you don't know her，So I don't feel it's right to ask you.”That leaves the decision entirely in the hands of the giver. From the giver's point of view ,once someone has let you off the hook in this way，you should feel no pressure to contribute. Another solution used in some offices is to pass around an envelope. Each person may anonymously contribute what he or she likes.

為適應我國高等教育發展的新形勢，推動大學英語教學改革，提高大學英語教學質量，培養符合新時期國家和社會發展需要的合格人才，教育部於2004年初頒布了《大學英語課程教學要求（試行）》（以下簡稱《課程要求》），作為全國各高校實施大學英語教學的重要依據。
為了便於各高校確定教學目標並組織教學，《課程要求》將“培養學生的英語綜合套用能力”作為我國大學英語教學的總體目標，並將大學英語教學的具體要求分為三個層次：一般要求、較高要求和更高要求。每個層次都對學生的英語快速閱讀能力做出了具體規定。在一般要求層次，《課程要求》規定，“在快速閱讀篇幅較長、難度略低的材料時，閱讀速度達到每分鐘100個單詞。能基本讀懂國內英文報刊，掌握中心意思，理解主要事實和有關細節。能讀懂工作、生活中常見的套用文體的材料。能在閱讀中使用有效的閱讀方法。”
教育部2005年9月下旬公布了大學英語四、六級考試改革的新題型，2006年又進行了修訂。改革後的大學英語四、六級考試增加了快速閱讀理解的測試，快速、準確地獲取信息是測試的重點。
依據《課程要求》的總體目標和具體規定，結合大學英語四、六級考試的最新要求，我們組織了大批多年在教學一線的大學英語教師，歷時三年，精心編寫r這套《新思路大學英語快速閱讀》，以期通過長期、系統的快速閱讀實踐循序漸進地提高大學生的英語快速閱讀水平，從而提高他們的英語綜合套用能力。
《新思路大學英語快速閱讀》全套分為四冊，達到了《課程要求》規定的一般要求層次對於快速閱讀的具體要求。全套教材在選材長度、題型設計和閱讀速度等方面參考了《課程要求》和大學英語四、六級考試快速閱讀理解測試的相關要求，以幫助學生培養對英語文章閱讀的興趣，熟悉題型，逐漸提高英語快速閱讀能力。
