1936年生於黑龍江省綏化縣四方台鎮,1957年畢業於吉林大學數學系,同年至大連理工大學任教,1980年任副教授,1984年任教授,1985年任美國Georgia Tech訪問教授,1987年回大連理工大學任教。

1956年論文“一些特殊覆蓋的不可能性”獲吉林大學學生科學研究一等獎,中國青年報評價為“論文題目新穎有創造性”。
1979年論文“線性運算元方程組一般解的代數構造”獲遼寧省重大科技成果二等獎。光明日報、遼寧日報均有報導。成果被收入“教育部直屬高等學校成果選編”,評價為“一百多年來,前人對彈性力學方程組、電動力學方程組的一般解往往只能適合一種特殊情況,不能推廣。這一工作總結了彈性力學方程組的各種一般解,用代數的概念和構造方法,給出了統一理論和公式,並提出了恰當解這一重要概念,把過去彈性力學中應力函式位移函式的構造方法和其他場論問題聯繫起來,得到統一的求恰當解的方法,並推廣到一般化的線性運算元方程組理論中去。這個工作受到國內專家的好評,認為不僅是對基礎理論的重要貢獻,還有進一步推廣的價值。在國外,這方面還未見到類似的工作。”
1987年因“多變數擬協調有限元法”的數學理論獲國家自然科學獎三等獎,評語為“建立了以擬協調元方法為構架的更一般的有限元數學基礎,進一步提出多變數有限元的逼近性,弱閉性、嵌入性、緊緻性,比過去只基於位移元和和雜交元的數學基礎,向前跨了一大步。”
1987年被子授予遼寧省首批有突出貢獻的中青年科技專家稱號。
1988-1990年主持國家自然科學基金項目“有限元的數學理論及其套用”。1989年成果被收入“國家自然科學基金資助項目優秀成果要覽。”
1991年“遼河油田稠油層岩石熱物理性參數計算方法研究”獲遼寧省1991年科技進步二等獎。
1992-1994年主持國家自然科學基金項目:“求解連續體力學問題的微分代數和幾何拓樸方法。”
1993-1997年為國家八五攀登計畫項目:“機器證明及其套用”成員。
1996-1998年主持國家基金項目:“計算固體力學的辛算術代數幾何模型。”
1998年為國家九五攀登預選項目‘數學機械化及其套用”成員。

綜上所述,張鴻慶的研究方向是偏微分方程的求解及其套用。在求解方面除了在有限元方面做過一系列工作之外,主要研究集中於構造偏微分方程的解析解,這些工作有以下特點:
1) 具有統一的理論框架。構造微分方程的解析解是十分困難的工作,已構造出的解析解各有各的技巧,沒有統一的方法,大量的重要問題無法求出解析解。張鴻慶教授提出一個統一的框架,既可以系統地產生已有的解,又能得到一系列新的解析解;
2) 密切結合力學和物理 事實上這些工作來自解決力學問題,由彈性力學逐步擴大到電動力學、板殼理論、分析力學、流體力學、弧波以及理論物理的各個領域;
3) 是數學機械化事業重要的組成部分。 92年以來,張鴻慶教授一直是數學機械化項目的成員,並且是微分情形數學機械化的主要成員之一,將統一的理論框架和符號計算與計算機科學相結合,具有廣闊的發展前景;
4) 研究範圍從線性擴大到非線性。 96年以前的工作主要研究線性問題,96年以後重點轉到非線性問題,原有的框架仍然適用,但內容有許多新的發展;
5) 由於方向正確(主攻非線性,非線性問題是當前熱點),框架統一(我們首創的AC=BD模式),工具得力(計算機代數,符號計算),取得豐碩的成果,據不完全統計,2003年11月統計,SCI檢索80餘篇,他引170次,單篇最高他引47次。
6) 青年同志迅速成長。  例如一個博士生在一年期間發表二十幾篇文章,2002年SCI總數全國排名並列第一;其他博士生和碩士生絕大多數都有論文發表,許多亦被SCI和EI檢索。

科研成果

1987年因“多變數擬協調有限元法”的數學理論獲國家自然科學獎三等獎,評語為“建立了以擬協調元方法為構架的更一般的有限元數學基礎,進一步提出多變數有限元的逼近性,弱閉性、嵌入性、緊緻性,比過去只基於位移元和和雜交元的數學基礎,向前跨了一大步。”
1979年獲遼寧省重大科技成果二等獎,
1982年獲遼寧省自然科學優秀論文一等獎,1
987年獲國家自然科學三等獎,並被評為省有突出貳獻的中青年科技人員。
1988年獲遼寧省優秀學術論文二等獎。
1987年被子授予遼寧省首批有突出貢獻的中青年科技專家稱號。
1989年成果被收入“國家自然科學基金資助項目優秀成果要覽”。
1991年“遼河油田稠油層岩石熱物理性參數計算方法研究”獲遼寧省1991年科技進步二等獎。
