Abstract
ThegenesisofthecarboniferousvolcanicrocksintheDahalajunshangroup,mainlyconsistingoftrachytesandtrachy-andesitesanddistributingwidelyinwesternTianshanMountains,remainstobecontroversial.Ithasbeenproposedtoberelevantto"rift"or"plume".Detailedpetrologyandgeochemicaldatapresentedinthispapershowthatthesevolcanicrocksrepresenttypicalcontinentalarcmagmatism.Thevolcanicrocksaremainlytrachy-andesitic,andthemagmasourceisenrichedinLILE,ThandPb,anddepletedinHFSEandCe.Traceelementgeochemicalstudysuggeststhatthebasaltscouldbemodeledby7%-11%partialmeltofgarnetlherzolite.ThevolcanicrocksintheDahalajunshangroupareneithertheproductsof"rift"norso-called"plume"butrepresentthecontinentalislandarcofthePaleo-SouthernTianshanOcean.Themantlewedgehadbeenmodifiedbythemeltgeneratinginsubductionzoneduringalongevolutionhistoryofthisislandarc.Thecontinentalcrustmaterials(i.e.mainlysedimentonoceanfloor)hadbeenaddedintoislandarcthroughmeltinsubductionzone.Volcanicrocksoccurringindifferentregionsmightrepresentmagmaeruptionindifferenttime.ThezirconSHRIMPdatingindicatesthattheagesofthebasaltvariesbetween334.0Maand394.9Ma.The13analysesgiveanaverageageof353.7（4.5Ma）（MSWD=1.7）.Theapparentagesofzirconsintrachy-andesitevarybetween293.0Maand465.4Ma.AllanalysesfallontheU-Pbconcordantlineandaredividedintotwogroups.8analysesproduceanaverageageof312.8（4.2Ma）（MSWD=1.7）,whichrepresentsthecrystallizingageofzirconRIMSintrachy-andesite.Theacquiredtwoages(i.e.354and313Ma)belongtotheEarlyCarboniferousandLateCarboniferousepochs,respectively.Thus,theDahalajunshangroupwouldbeseparatedintoseveralgroupswiththeaccumulationofhigh-qualityagedatinganddataoftraceelementandisotopicgeochemistry,inouropinion.
