個人簡介
生於紐約北達科他州瓦利城，華盛頓大學畢業。1929年以音樂歌舞有聲片《百美宮》首登銀幕。之後也曾在幾部音樂歌舞片中露面，但直到1933年的角色演出才引起注意。1939年進入米高梅，陸續主演了10部以梅仙為女主角的片集，如《梅仙小傳》、《梅仙淘金》、《拳擊台邊的梅仙》、《梅仙秘密傳動》等，深受美國觀眾喜愛。同時，她還間插演出了一批歌舞片和喜劇片，如《美人如玉》《巴拿馬海蒂》《三妻艷事》等，充分展現了她的表演藝術才華。1958-1961年她主持的“安．蘇純劇場”也很受歡迎。1986年她出演《八月的鯨》時已是77歲高齡，此片使她獲得奧斯卡最佳女配角提名。
